Garden in transition

It’s that time of year when spring veggies are coming in and summer crops are starting to grow. A time when a gardener has a lot to think about (and a lot of tasty berries and greens to eat). Here’s what’s happening in our small backyard garden right now:

Clockwise from top left: head lettuce and arugula; pepper and tomato starts; a zucchini or cucumber (zucchumber?); prime season for strawberries.

Yes, I know, I should have labeled which were the cucumbers and which were the zucchinis. I planted both. I guess we’ll see when they start to produce fruit!

In the empty space left by pulling out the massive collard plants, I sowed a crop of bush beans. I hope to see them poking their leafy heads out of the soil any day now!

Bush beans should spring from this empty space any day now.
