Heading to the plant sale

May is here, the month of dirty hands and growing things and big, big dreams. They’ll become more realistic later in the summer when wet days and weeds and disease begin, but right now, anything is possible.

Take these sturdy zucchini and cucumber starts, for example!

Today, I’ll head to the annual Asheville Herb Festival, which, despite its name, is a fantastic place to pick up summer veggie starts in addition to all manner of herbs and flowers. I hope to get jalapeno and tomato and perhaps even some lettuce or broccoli, since my seeds didn’t do too well. You never know what you’ll find!
